After growing up a military kid, Kyla settled in Atlanta, GA where she began dancing at the age of ten. She taught classes at her local studio, Upstage Dance Centre and performed with the Georgia Ballet dancers as a senior. She also participated in a performance of Singing in the Rain. She attended the University of Georgia with degrees in political science and philosophy. She was on the university tap company, Tap Dawgs, from 2006-2010 and choreographed over a dozen pieces. She also taught intermediate tap at a local studio, Dance FX, for a year. Her senior year she joined the Red Hotz, the university’s only competition squad. When she began her master degree in political science, she started a new team, Georgia Dance Team. They performed at campus events and all over Atlanta and north Georgia. She was president and choreographer from 2010-2012, and then coached the team 2012-2015. After moving to Chapel Hill, NC in the fall of 2015, she became the head coach of the Duke University Dancing Devils. She enjoys teaching jazz, tap, and technique and works full time as a USA Todaybestselling author.
